Doctor Strange in The Multiverse of Madness

San Diego Comic Con has brought some great news. Marvel announced a bunch of stuff for Marvel’s next Phase and the most exiting of them all is the announcement of “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” on May 7, 2021 with star Benedict Cumberbatch returning alongside director Scott Derrickson.

The Doctor Strange Sequel will be a straight up horror movie which will be the first of its kind in the Marvel Cinematic History. Feige and Derrickson both confirmed that we are going to witness something entirely different this time, something that embraces Derrickson’s roots as a horror filmmaker. His past films include The Exorcism of Emily Rose, Sinister, and Sinister 2.

In Derrickson’s own words he said-

“I don’t want to do just another sequel, so if I’m gonna do it, I want to get into the territory that got me into Doctor Strange in the first place — the Gothic and the horrific. ” “So we’re gonna make the first scary MCU movie.”

To which Cumberbatch echoed Derrickson’s sentiment to take on the horror and mysterious aspects of the MCU establishing the mysterious Realms in which Strange can travel, while also maintaining that Marvel sense of humor. Kevin Feige also joked of it being a PG-13 movie ensuring us some MCU fun alongside the horror element of it.

But that’s not the end of it, adding to the mix we have the Scarlett Witch herself joining Dr. Strange in his journey into the Multiverse Madness. Also, the events of the film will directly tie into the upcoming Disney+ Series WandaVision which is expected to hit Disney+ in the spring 2021. Also Elizabeth Olsen promised fans that we are gonna find out why her character is called Scarlet Witch in the upcoming series promising us a whole package of madness and mystery.

With the title reveal many questions arise on the inclusion of the word “Multiverse” in the title. “Spider-Man: Far From Home” featured the villain Mysterio, who (Spoiler) brought up the idea of alternate earth and claimed to be from one . Of course, by the end it all turned out to be false and he was just a master con artist who made up the whole thing. But that doesn’t mean that the concept of Multiverse is a lie too. Even Kevin Feige has admitted the same. Also, originally “Doctor Strange” movie did actually involve real multiverse elements- where Strange had to travel into the Dark Dimension, home of Dormammu, in order to save the earth. But this idea was later scrapped out due to its complex nature.

So, to sum it up we are definitely in for a mad ride. But we’ll have to wait until 2021 to see just how things turn out. For more MCU stuff keep tuned to entertainly. Happy Reading!!
